Join me as I share a three-pillar framework that transforms a single livestream into multiple engaging forms of content, helping you maximize your reach and save time.

Introduction and Overview

If you’ve ever felt bogged down by the endless cycle of content creation, you’re in the right place. Today, we’re diving into a game-changing framework that will not only help you create content more efficiently but also allow you to repurpose your existing content like a pro.

Imagine taking a single livestream and transforming it into multiple forms of engaging content. Sounds like magic, right? Well, it’s not! With the right approach, you can maximize your content's reach and impact without burning out.

We’ll explore my three-pillar framework designed specifically for content creators like you. So, grab your favorite beverage, and let's get started!

🚨 But First, Here’s a Facebook Live Update

Before we jump into the heart of today's topic, let’s address a recent update from Facebook that everyone’s been buzzing about. Facebook has decided to delete videos after they’re 30 days old. Yes, you heard that right! If you’re using Facebook Live as your primary platform, this news is crucial.

Many creators are understandably frustrated, as it means the content they’ve worked hard to create will vanish on the platform.

This is a wake-up call for all of us. You need to take control of your content and ensure it's backed up in your own spaces. Remember, Facebook is rented land. You don’t own the content you post there, so it’s vital to have a strategy that includes preserving your videos elsewhere.

Why You Don't Own Facebook Content

This brings us to a key point: you don’t own your ‘land’ on Facebook or any other social platform. It’s essential to keep track of your own content and maintain ownership by storing it on your own platforms. If you haven’t been downloading your Facebook Live videos, now is a good time to start considering your gameplan. And if you’re only using Facebook Live, consider expanding your reach by also broadcasting on platforms like YouTube.

Why YouTube? Because it’s a search engine! Your content can be discovered long after you post it, unlike Facebook’s fleeting nature. So, think about your strategy moving forward.

The Importance of Backup and Strategy

Having a backup plan is non-negotiable. With Facebook's recent changes, it’s clear that relying solely on one platform can be risky. You need to think about how to keep your content safe and accessible. This means downloading your videos regularly and considering platforms that allow you to host and display your content in a way that works for you.

Whether it's using a dedicated hosting service or saving files to an external drive, the goal is to ensure your content is secure. Remember, storage is cheap, but losing your content? That’s expensive. So let’s prioritize your content strategy to ensure you’re always covered.

Now for the good stuff…

Introducing the Three Pillars of Repurposing

Now that we’ve laid the groundwork, let’s dive into the meat of today’s discussion: the three pillars of repurposing. This framework is designed to help you create more with less effort. The three pillars are:

  1. Long Form to Short Form: Creating long-form content with the intention of breaking it down into shorter, shareable pieces.

  2. Cross Platform Sharing: Tailoring your content for different platforms to maximize your reach.

  3. Lean and Evergreen Content: Focusing on creating content that remains relevant and useful over time.

These pillars will help you not only create but also maintain an ongoing content strategy that works for you. Let’s explore each pillar in detail, starting with the first one.

Pillar 1: Long Form to Short Form

The first pillar is all about extracting bite-sized pieces from your long-form content. Think of your livestream as a buffet; there are plenty of delicious options to choose from! When you create long-form content, identify key moments that can be turned into short clips. This allows you to promote your content on social media and engage your audience in a more digestible way.

Why is this important? Time is finite. We all have the same 24 hours in a day, and it’s essential to make the most of it. By focusing on long-form content, you can create something that continues to work for you while you handle other responsibilities, whether that’s serving clients or spending time with family.

Long form to short form content strategy

Long-form content equals longevity. It allows you to connect with your audience on a deeper level, attracting those who are genuinely interested in what you have to offer. You want to create an environment where your audience feels they’ve stumbled upon something valuable enough to stick around for.

As you create your livestream, think about segments that can be repurposed. For instance, if you're discussing multiple topics, each segment can become its own piece of micro-content. This strategy not only saves time but also maximizes the impact of the original content.

Additionally, consider creating quotes and sound bites. These can be pulled from your livestream and transformed into engaging visuals or audio clips. By planning ahead and crafting your phrases strategically, you can create memorable quotes that resonate with your audience.

Another great way to enhance your content is by incorporating behind-the-scenes footage or B-roll. This adds an extra layer of engagement and gives your audience a glimpse into your creative process. People love to see what happens behind the curtain, and it makes your content feel more authentic and relatable.

Pillar 2: Cross Platform Sharing

Alright, let’s dive into the second pillar of our repurposing strategy: Cross Platform Sharing. This is where things can get a little tricky, but don’t worry, I’m here to guide you through it!

One of the biggest mistakes I see creators make is trying to post the same content across all platforms without any adjustments. I’ve been guilty of this too, rushing to share my work without considering the unique audience on each platform. It’s not a cardinal sin, but it definitely won’t give you the best results.

When you think about cross-platform sharing, consider how your content can be tailored to fit the specific nuances of each platform. For instance, what works on YouTube may not resonate on LinkedIn. I’ve found that my highly produced vertical clips don’t always perform well on YouTube Shorts. Instead, more casual clips where I’m just talking to the camera tend to get better engagement.

YouTube Shorts performance

This is especially important when you’re repurposing content from a livestream or video podcast. The same content can take different forms depending on where you’re sharing it. For LinkedIn, I’ve discovered that turning my livestream content into a newsletter format works much better than simply posting video clips. I’ve seen far more likes and comments on my newsletters than on those vertical clips.

So, as you repurpose your content, think about the format that will resonate with each platform’s audience. Audiences behave differently depending on where they are. It’s crucial to experiment and see what works best for you.

Another tip? Use tools like Descript, CapCut, or Canva to resize your content easily. Whether you need a square, vertical, or horizontal format, these tools make it simple to adapt your content without starting from scratch.

And let’s not forget about Stories! I’ve noticed that some of my vertical clips perform better in Stories than they do as Reels. This isn’t just about experimenting with formats; it’s about knowing your audience and what they engage with.

As you consider your content strategy, remember to include authentic elements that engage your audience, whether that’s pets, personal stories, or behind-the-scenes looks. Authenticity breeds connection, and people love seeing the real you!

Pillar 3: Keep It Lean and Evergreen

Now, let’s move on to the third pillar: Keep It Lean and Evergreen. This is all about creating content that stands the test of time. When you’re crafting your content, think about how it can remain relevant long after your livestream ends.

For example, you can transform your livestream transcripts into detailed blog posts that live on your website—your own digital real estate. This not only helps with SEO but also ensures that your content continues to provide value over time.

Blogging has evolved, and while I don't want to focus solely on that, consider also using newsletter formats. If you're on platforms like LinkedIn or Substack, you can repurpose your video content into articles or newsletters that engage your audience in a different way.

Creating evergreen content

Additionally, think about how you can create multi-point emails summarizing key takeaways from your livestream. You can even turn your content into mind maps or visual aids using tools like Sketch Wow. This caters to different learning styles and makes your content more accessible.

Remember, the goal is to produce content that will remain relevant and valuable over time. If someone stumbles upon your content months or even years later, will it still be useful? This is particularly important in fast-changing fields like AI, where specific instructions may quickly become outdated. Instead, focus on evergreen concepts that will hold true regardless of the latest trends.

As you plan your content, avoid tying it too closely to specific dates or events that may have passed. This way, your audience can continue to benefit from your insights long after your livestream has ended.
