Go Live, Sell Real: Embracing Authenticity in Livestream Sales

A replay of my livestream sharing how to sell by showing up as your real self and focusing on genuine conversations

In this episode we dive into the art of selling on live streams without feeling like a stereotype. If you’ve ever felt hesitant to promote your products or services during a live stream, you’re not alone. Many of us worry about appearing 'icky' or 'salesy,' and that’s completely normal. But let’s break down why selling can actually be a natural extension of your conversation, and how you can do it authentically.

Why Selling is Important

Introduction to selling on live streams

For many of us, live streaming isn’t just a hobby; it’s a way to create a sustainable business that supports our families and ourselves. To thrive in this space, you need to market yourself and sell something. This episode aims to give you the freedom and permission to embrace selling as a part of your live streams.

Building Trust, Not Performance

Let’s kick things off with the first major point: trust. Selling is not about performing; it’s about creating an environment of trust with your audience. When you go live, think of it as inviting someone into your home for coffee. It’s about having a conversation, not putting on a show.

As I navigate through comments and engage with viewers, I'm not just broadcasting; I'm building credibility and nurturing a community. The misconception that you need to perform to get paid can actually hinder your ability to connect with your audience.

Relax and Be Yourself

When you stop worrying about being perfect, it becomes easier to engage with your audience. If you think about the last time you were on camera, how did you treat yourself and your viewers? Did you view them as buyers or as people you genuinely want to help? This mindset shift is crucial for fostering trust.

Lead with Value

Point number two is all about leading with value. This means you shouldn’t start your stream by urging people to buy your stuff. Instead, focus on creating offer-based content that provides value to your viewers. This is where the BOSS formula comes into play.

  • B for Brand: Know your market (target audience), your message, your method, and your mastery.

  • O for Offer Based Content: Generate leads through content that aligns with what you sell.

  • S for Smart Systems: Use automation, AI and great workflows to streamline processes.

  • S for Social Engagement: Build, nurture, and attract community through your live streams.

Reverse Engineering Your Content

When you create content, it should be intentional. If you don’t know your brand or what you’re selling, you’re wasting your time. I learned this the hard way. Early on, I created content just for fun, but I didn't have a clear path for my audience to engage with me afterward.

Asking Doesn’t Have to Be Awkward

Now let’s talk about the third point: asking doesn’t have to be awkward. Many people worry that they will come off as too salesy when they ask for the sale. I remember feeling the same way when I was first introduced to sales. It took practice to move myself out of the way and focus on how I could help others.

When you’re on live, remember, it’s a conversation. If what you’re sharing resonates with your audience, simply invite them to reach out for more information or assistance. It’s human, and it works.

Utilizing Affiliate Links

Even if you don’t have your own products to sell yet, you can share affiliate links. This is a win-win for everyone involved. It helps you monetize your streams without creating your own products immediately.

Bonus Tips for Selling on Live Streams

Here’s a quick bonus framework to help you connect with your audience:

  1. Hook: Identify a problem your audience is facing.

  2. Help: Teach them valuable steps or shifts that can help.

  3. Hint: Introduce your offer as a solution to implement that shift fully.

Final Thoughts

Remember that live streams can be a powerful tool for selling when approached with authenticity and value. Focus on building trust, leading with value, and asking for the sale in a natural way. You have the opportunity to create a ripple effect that not only benefits you but also transforms the lives of those watching.
